I had a poll on my instagram recently regarding facial buffing and I was stunned to know that many of my followers didn’t even know what buffing was. I like to exfoliate my skin twice a week so that my products are better absorbed into my skin. However, I was recently introduced to Sisley’s Creme Gommante; a gentle facial buffing cream, and it was a complete game changer.
How it works: It sweeps away dead skin cells and impurities, gently refining the skin’s texture. The exfoliant increases the skin’s receptiveness to other skin care products in your skincare regimen. I apply a thin layer 1 or 2 times a week to my cleansed, dry face and neck. Emphasis on the word “dry” here. If your face is damp or wet the product will not dry and it defeats the whole purpose of the product. I leave it on for 5 minutes until this layer becomes almost transparent. I then gently massage with my fingertips while supporting the skin with the other hand. The dry particles of cream flake away revealing softer smoother skin underneath.
I like to use it once a week before a mask, for full absorption. If you have oily skin, you can use the buffer twice a week. The idea behind this product is to allow your skin to be receptive to products by shedding away dead skin cells. A little gross, but extremely effective! Celebrity Make up artist Nick Barose, whose clients include Lupita Nyong’o and Rachel Weisz, has often singled this product out as a pre-makeup prep essential.
It’s hefty at about $95. The entire Sisley line is hefty. But its worth every cent! If you’re still not convinced, visit a Sisley counter and ask for a sample before you make your purchase. This product has left my skin feeling more even in the texture department, which means my foundation goes on much more smoothly.
